The Federal Government of Canada introduces an Agri-food immigration pilot program to help fill the labor shortage in Canada’s agricultural industries. It’s an industry-specific program that targets labor needs, especially in meat processing and mushroom production.
The goal of this program is to attract experienced, non-seasonal workers who can make economical establish in Canada. It is basically a three-year program. They accept a maximum of 2750 applicants and their families per year in different agricultural sectors.

Eligible Industries and Occupations
The applicant for this pilot program must find a job from designated industries. These industries are classified by the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). The eligible industries are;
- Category 1: Meat product manufacturing
- Category 2: Greenhouse, mushroom production, nursery, and floriculture production
- Category 3: Animal production
The eligible occupations under category 1;
- Industrial butchers
- Retail butchers
- Food processing laborers
- Farm supervisor and livestock workers
The eligible occupations under category 2;
- Farm supervisor and livestock workers
- Harvesting laborers
- General farmworkers
The eligible occupations under category 3;
- Farm supervisor and livestock workers
- General farmworkers
Eligibility Criteria for Candidates
You must have the following criteria to be eligible for the Agri-food immigration pilot program.
Work Experience
You must have at least one year or 1560 hours of work experience in the past three years. The work experience must be relevant to the eligible occupations or jobs. Also, your work experience must be acquired in the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
Appeal Your Immigration Decision
Did IRCC: Refuses your application of sponsorship for your close family member? Or Ordered you to remove from Canada? Or Decided that you have violated your residency obligation and cancel your permanent residency?

To be eligible for this pilot program, you have a qualifying job offer from one of the employers in eligible industries. The offered job must be;
- Full time
- Non-seasonal
- Permanent
- With a minimum wage according to Job bank’s prevailing wage
Language Requirements
As a candidate, you must prove your proficiency in English and French. The minimum language requirements for this program are CLB or NCLC 4.
Education Requirements
You must have either a Canadian high school diploma or an ECA report from any designated organization. It shows that you have completed a foreign credential at the high school level or above.
Proof of Funds
If you are applying outside of Canada, you must prove that you have enough money to support yourself and your family. This is not applicable for those who are applying from inside Canada.
